President Duterte signs law lowering minimum height requirement for PNP, BFP, BJMP & BuCor applicants

Good News to all PNP, BFP, BJMP, BuCor applicants!

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has signed a law that reduces the height requirement for the Philippine National Police and other uniformed services (Bureau of Corrections, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

President Duterte signed Republic Act 11549 or the “PNP, BFP, BJMP and BuCor Height Equality Act” on May 26, 2021, Wednesday, lowering the minimum height requirement in the Philippine National Police, the Bureau of Fire Protection, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and the Bureau of Corrections to 1.57 meters (5 feet 2 inches) for males and 1.52 meters (5 feet) for females.

This law intends to remove the barrier for everyone who is affected, regardless of race or ethnicity, especially now when additional law enforcement officers are needed.

So, no Height Waiver anymore?

If you read the context of the law (RA11549), it says “LOWERING THE MINIMUM HEIGHT REQUIREMENT”, thus, the Height waiver still applicable for applicants if they did not meet the newly required height requirements; 5’2 for males and 5’ for females.

When will RA No. 11549 take effect?

RA 11549, which was signed/released by Malacañang on Wednesday, May 26, takes effect 15 days after it is published in its entirety in the Official Gazette or a general circulation newspaper.

History: In 2013, Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III vetoed or rejected this bill that sought to repeal the uniformed services’ height requirement.
