Bill allowing K-12 graduates to enter the PNP filed in Congress

On August 24, 2020, former actor and now Quezon City 5th District Representative Alfred Vargas filed House Bill No. 7404 or the “K-12 to PNP Act” allowing K-12 graduates without any eligibility (PRC, NAPOLCOM, Civil Service, etc.) to join the PNP Force.

The Department of Education (DepEd) designed the K-12 Enhanced Education Program to increase the quality of education and address the unemployment in the country by providing students with mastery of basic competencies and skills necessary for employment and at par with international standards.

This bill will also level the playing field for children of poor families who cannot afford to go to college to be qualified to the country’s police force, while adhering to the PNP’s general qualification, amending for the PNP Law.

Early in May 2020, Senator Grace Poe also filed a similar bill under Senate Bill No. 1486, allowing K-12 graduates to enter the Philippine National Police.

Status of the Bill: Pending before the Committee on Public Order and Safety since August 24, 2020
