Taping of Gun Muzzle of PNP personnel during the holiday season
The
Department of the Interior Local Government (DILG) will leave the decision of the
gun muzzle sealing activity to the PNP Regional Directors and Unit Commanders
for this holiday season.
“We leave it to the regional
directors and unit commanders of the PNP. Every year, alam na nila ang gagawin
diyan. Pero effective pa rin talaga ‘yan, ‘yung merong tape,” DILG
Secretary Eduardo Año said.
“Maari lang gamitin ang
baril ng pulis tuwing may engwkentro sa mga kriminal habang nasa official duty.
Hindi rin ito maaring gamitin sa mga warning shots at iba pang indiscriminate
gun firing. (The guns can be used on official duty when having an encounter
with a criminal. However, the guns cannot be fired even for warning shots and
other indiscriminate gun firings),” Año added.
Those
who were found to have fired their weapons indiscriminately during the holidays
faced severe administrative sanctions. Their immediate superior will also be
sanctioned.
Those
with broken seals indicating the firearms were used will be asked to justify
why they fire their guns.
