Bill allowing K-12 graduates to enter the PNP filed in Congress
On
August 24, 2020, former actor and now Quezon City 5th District
Representative Alfred Vargas filed House
Bill No. 7404 or the “K-12
to PNP Act” allowing K-12 graduates without any eligibility (PRC, NAPOLCOM,
Civil Service, etc.) to join the PNP Force.
The
Department of Education (DepEd) designed the K-12 Enhanced Education Program to
increase the quality of education and address the unemployment in the country
by providing students with mastery of basic competencies and skills necessary
for employment and at par with international standards.
Rep.
Vargas said in his explanatory note that thisbill
seeks to realize the promise of the K-12 Enhanced Education Program while also
supporting the pool of the Philippine National Police’s next generation of
recruits.
This bill will also level
the playing field for children of poor families who cannot afford to go to
college to be qualified to the country’s police force, while adhering to the
PNP’s general qualification, amending for the PNP Law.
Early
in May 2020, Senator Grace Poe also filed a similar bill under Senate Bill No. 1486,
allowing K-12 graduates to enter the Philippine National Police.
