Senator Imee Marcos wants work from home arrangement mandatory

In the second quarter of 2020, 7,192 confirmed cases of the current worldwide virus pandemic infection, tolling 477 deaths had been tallied.

On April 24, 2020, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte announced the extension of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in high risk areas, while other regions remained under general community quarantine (GCQ).

Clearly, a “new normal” of social distancing, new hygiene standards and limited physical contact shall prevail into the future.

Various sectors have to make major modifications in their policy to ensure compliance with social distancing measures.

Senator Imee Marcos telecommuting

Senator Imee Marcos has filed Senate Bill 1448 which seeks to amend Republic Act 11165 (Telecommuting Act), where telecommuting defined as a work arrangement that allows an employee to perform his tasks from an alternative workplace with the use of telecommunication and/or computer technologies.

As of June 23, 2020, the Department of Health (DOH) recorded 31, 825 confirmed cases of infection with 1,186 deaths tallied.

The said bill seeks to strengthen the telecommuting law by making it MANDATORY and not merely optional, for employers to offer telecommuting as an alternative to its employees whose physical presence in the workplace is not absolutely essential to the performance of their functions.
